History Influencing Pedagogy

Erin Goody brings a wealth of both professional and volunteer experience into the classroom. These experiences have shaped the teacher she is and the way she intentionally cultivates classroom community.

STREET OUTREACH TEAM MEMBER

January 2016-December 2017

"This experience taught me a lot about the power of human connection. Being a volunteer outreach member sounds magnanimous but I found it to be an incredibly humbling experience. This role exposed me to the great deal of privilege that I possess in this society and I am continuing to work towards being able to use that privilege to lift others up and make space for their stories. Further, developing a trauma-informed pedagogical practice is important to me and I am currently looking for ways to include this in my future classroom."

DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL

November 2014 - September 2017

"Working as a support staff within a group home setting was an experience that exposed me to what those with differentiated intellectual, emotional, and physical abilities go through from day to day. I believe that a fully inclusive society is possible but that we have a long way to go, but we can start in the classroom by creating an environment that works for all learners. I want to be a part of this process of changing and adapting our classrooms to suit the needs of the students who inhabit it. I continue to advocate for those with exceptionalities and welcome professional learning opportunities that allow me to do so."

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT

March 2017 - Present

"Being able to provide support in the classroom to some of our communities’ most vulnerable students has greatly influenced my journey towards becoming an educator. My eyes have been opened to the great many contributions that all school-community stakeholders bring to the lives of students on a daily basis. I feel that this experience has given me a great deal of respect for all those involved in the educational journeys of our students and I am looking forward to creatively collaborating with all classroom players in the future."
